Swim Lessons for Toddlers, Preschoolers & Beginners in Colorado Springs

A supportive place for first-time swimmers to build comfort, water safety skills, and confidence.

Every swimmer starts somewhere.

At Pikes Peak Athletics, we place children by age and current ability so they can start at the right level instead of being pushed into skills before they are ready. Our approach emphasizes comfort, water safety, independent movement, and progressive skill development without aggressive survival techniques.

  • Small class sizes, including 1:3 PLittle and 1:4 Little Pikes groups

  • 2:1 Mini Group lessons for swimmers who benefit from more focused instruction

  • A progressive curriculum that begins with comfort and water safety and builds toward independent swimming and stroke development

  • Warm-water shallow-pool instruction for beginning swimmers at the PPA Training Center

  • A path into deeper water and more advanced swimming skills as swimmers progress

  • Ongoing enrollment so families can start when space is available

What If My Child Is Nervous or Afraid of the Water?

We understand. Fear of the water does not mean your child cannot become a confident swimmer. PPA uses a positive, non-aggressive approach that allows swimmers to build skills at their own pace. Small class sizes help instructors provide individual attention, and beginning swimmers at the PPA Training Center can learn in a warm-water shallow pool. For swimmers with a high level of fear or anxiety, or those who benefit from one-on-one attention, private lessons may also be an option.

Baby, Toddler & Preschool Swim Lessons

Families looking for beginner swim lessons can start with Water Babies, PLittle, or Little Pikes 1 depending on age, comfort, and current skill. These levels focus on building comfort, independence, water safety habits, and foundational swimming skills without aggressive survival methods.

Water Babies is for ages 6 months to 3 years and provides a positive introduction to the water with a parent or other adult in the pool. Songs, games, and age-appropriate instruction help children build comfort and begin developing water skills when they are ready.

PLittle is designed for ages 2 to 3 and focuses on building comfort and safety in the water without a parent in the pool.

Core Learn to Swim Levels

Little Pikes 1
We focus on comfort, independence, and safety in the water. Swimmers learn to move through the water independently using arms and legs, breathe, and establish water safety habits. Not sure where your child should start? Click here to use our Find My Level tool.

Little Pikes 2
This level introduces all 4 competitive strokes and builds comfort in the deep end. Swimmers will learn correct, efficient technique as they learn freestyle, backstroke, and the kicks for breaststroke and butterfly.

Little Pikes 3
This class completes the four competitive strokes and builds endurance. Swimmers will learn how to put arms and kick together for breaststroke and butterfly while working toward swimming full laps of all strokes. After completing this level, swimmers will be prepared for our Base Camp Swim Team (pre-competitive).
